Jim LaRoe

Jim LaRoe represents Malachite LLC on client engagements related to commercial building development and retrofit.

Mr. LaRoe has over 25 years of high-level experience as a commercial real estate development professional. As a partner/owner of Spaulding and Slye and managing director of Jones Lang LaSalle, Mr. LaRoe directed the development of more than ten million square feet of commercial projects, including investment real estate, renovations, build-to-suits and LEED certified buildings. He offers extensive experience in complex project development, building repositioning, client relations, staff management, new business development, investments and joint ventures.

Prior to joining Malachite, Mr. LaRoe was Director of the Clinton Climate Initiative’s Global Commercial Building Retrofit Program. In this capacity, he developed and implemented economically sound business models that enabled commercial building owners to significantly reduce their energy consumption, operating costs and greenhouse gas emissions.  Clinton Climate Initiative clients assisted by Mr. LaRoe included organizations with U.S. and global real estate portfolios ranging from 20 million to over 50 million square feet, and holding product types including office, retail, hotel and owner-occupied properties. Key assignments undertaken by Mr. La Roe included the development of energy efficiency procedures for a major U.S. financial institution throughout its worldwide portfolio of over 50 million square feet, and the initial work plan for a partnership between the Clinton Climate Initiative and the U.S. Green Building Council, focusing on the green retrofit of existing buildings.

Mr. LaRoe holds an MBA degree from the Whittemore School of the University of New Hampshire, and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of New Hampshire. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute and the U.S. Green Building Council, and served previously on the Board of Directors of the Northern Virginia Region chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
