Mike Alexander
Mike Alexander, LEED AP is a strategic consultant at Malachite LLC. In this role, Mr. Alexander leads research and development activities aimed at matching the firm's clients with equity and debt for green building projects, supports business development efforts, and identifies and develops strategic partnerships for clients implementing sustainable real estate initiatives. He holds the LEED Accredited Professional designation of the U.S. Green Building Council.
Before joining Malachite LLC, Mr. Alexander headed sustainable strategies for Fort Pitt Group, the parent company of a family of successful heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and plumbing contractors. Fort Pitt Group is one of the 50 largest contractors in North America and one of the top ten providers of building control systems. In heading Fort Pitt Group's sustainable building efforts, Mr. Alexander worked across the Fort Pitt Group of Companies, including Calvert-Jones Company, Blue Dot of Maryland and Columbus Mechanical, to develop projects involving green building techniques, LEED certification, geothermal systems, indoor air quality, and energy efficiency. As a manager of Fort Pitt's energy and environmental team, Mr. Alexander led efforts to market and effectively deliver sustainable building services to property owners.
Mr. Alexander started his sustainable building career with Calvert-Jones Company, where he served as green business coordinator. In this role, he developed sustainable approaches to the installation and maintenance of building mechanical systems, identified business opportunities, performed and wrote green building and energy assessments evaluating "greening" opportunities in existing buildings, and developed and prepared proposals for sustainable building services. Mr. Alexander also played a key role in forging business to business relationships and in forming strategic partnerships with Energy Star, the U.S. Green Building Council, the Greater Washington Energy Efficiency Partnership, and others.
